A lip reader has lifted the lid on what Joaquin Phoenix apparently said to Lady Gaga after watching the new Joker movie.

Joker: Folie à Deux, a sequel to the 2019 Joker, released earlier this month in the US to some pretty poor reviews.

The new DC movie currently sits at a lowly 33 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, while some fans have even walked out a cinemas an hour in after being unimpressed by the movie.

Phoenix and Lady Gaga star in the new Joker film, and they were seen in close conversation after watching it at a film festival.

Clips of the acting pair speaking have appeared on social media, with many trying to work out what the pair said to each other.

Of course, lip reading is always an interpretation, so we can’t be sure what Phoenix and Gaga are saying.

On top of that, Phoenix is facing away from the camera a lot of the time, though what a lip reader has ‘revealed’ does tie in with the reviews for the movie.

“Someone should use that AI lip reader that I keep seeing on here to figure out what they were saying,” someone suggested on Twitter.

Thanks to the AI tool of ‘Read Their Lips’, Phoenix seemingly dubbed the film as ‘horrible’, while Gaga insisted it isn’t.

Phoenix went on to discuss how the ending ‘could have been different’, as Gaga insisted she ‘loved it’.

The negative reviews that have come through for the Joker sequel as well director Todd Phillips’ admission that he is done with the franchise.

When asked about the possibility of a stand-alone movie about Gaga’s Harley Quinn character introduced in Joker 2, Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.”

Speaking of getting the singer on board in the first place, the director added: “I think we sent her half the script, and she texted me pretty quickly that she was really into it, that she loved it and everything you want to hear.

“I went out to her house, and we met about what it was going to be, the rest of it, because we hadn’t written it yet.

“[Co-writer] Scott Silver and I are notoriously slow writers.”

On the film, one Rotten Tomatoes user said: “This film was so bad that I joined Rotten Tomatoes for the first time ever just to leave it a review.”

Another piled on: “As Jeremy Jahns would like to say… not gonna remember this one in T-minus one day.”

A final resolved: “Its story was slow and boring and never really went anywhere with the story. Way too much Lady Gaga singing. Didnt like the ending either.”

However, not everyone thought so poorly of the film.

One five star review read: “It’s probably not for everybody. Those who have depth and have the ability to lose themselves in the story will love it. The acting was phenomenal.”

Another added: “Tour de force from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga! Beautiful movie, heartbreaking, excellent.”

And someone else said: “The best Joker out of all the Jokers. Very cerebral movie with lots of references to the shadow self, the part of the human psyche which the ego does not see.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is in cinemas across the world now.

The movie has received harsh reviews but two sequels are already lined up

Fans of a chilling noughties horror movie have been left so disappointed by a new reboot that they’ve actually threatened to walk out of movie theaters.

From long-awaited sequels like Top Gun: Maverick to live-action adaptations from Disney, it seems like there’s always some form of franchise reboot going on nowadays.

The projects tend to spark mixed reactions as some fans welcome the chance to return to the beloved worlds, while others think they should be left well alone.

Unfortunately for one new horror reboot, a lot of viewers are falling into the second category.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 arrived in theaters last month, marking the return to the chilling movie series that began with The Strangers in 2008.

The original movie received middling reviews of 49 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, but that didn’t stop people from flooding to see it, and it racked up $82 million from a $9 million budget.

Starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, The Strangers followed a couple expecting a relaxing weekend away, only to find themselves terrorized by a group of strangers wearing terrifying masks.

Fast forward 16 years, and the franchise returned with Riverdale actor Madelaine Petsch in a starring role alongside Froy Gutierrez.

The new movie follows a similar premise as their two characters are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin after their car breaks down. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that it’s not exactly a quiet night in.

While it follows a similar formula to the original film, The Strangers: Chapter 1 has been hit with criticism from some viewers who took to Reddit to share their thoughts.

“It was the first movie I’ve ever considered walking out of,” one critic commented. “The protagonists were the dumbest, most annoying characters I’ve ever seen in a movie.”

Another agreed, writing: “I really like the first one, haven’t seen the second one, and somehow had managed to not see a single trailer for this one – I went in expecting bad but holy s**t it was worse than I thought it would be.”

The reboot has received a score of just 22 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting the critics on Reddit aren’t alone in their disappointment.

That being said, there are some people who enjoyed The Strangers: Chapter 1, and in fact even preferred it to the original movies.

One person wrote: “The Strangers: Chapter 1 is brilliant. Madelaine and Froy deliver a phenomenal performance.

“Their chemistry is one of the highlights of the movie. Enjoyed every bit of it. Don’t let certain reviews put you off as it’s really good!”

For those who have enjoyed the reboot, they’ll be glad to know that there are even more instalments in store in the future.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 is part of a trilogy which has already been filmed, with the next two movies set to be released in the coming months.

Lady Gaga has confirmed that she’ll be starring in Joker: Folie à Deux

Little monsters everywhere rejoice because Lady Gaga has confirmed she’ll be starring in Joker: Folie à Deux.

The Oscar winner announced the news on Twitter, and after seeing her dazzling performance in A Star Is Born, we can’t wait to see her as Harley Quinn.

Gaga will be acting opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who won a slate of awards for his initial portrayal of the scarred-faced villain in Joker.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Gaga wrote: “Joker: Folie à Deux 10.04.24,” along with a teaser trailer for the new film.

Todd Phillips is set to direct the new film and after securing 11 Academy Award nominations for his first Joker film, it’s safe to say that Gaga and Phoenix are in good hands.

While we now know more about the cast and director, little is known about the plot, but the film’s title might give us some clues.

Folie à Deux translates to ‘the madness of two’ and the film is rumoured to be set in Arkham Asylum.

Fans of the Batman comics will know that Arkham is where the Joker and Harley first met, with Harley serving as the villain’s psychotherapist.

Until she becomes entranced by the patient, probably because of his killer dance moves as seen in the first film, and winds up joining him on a rampage of madness and mayhem, that is.

And, if that wasn’t enough to excite you about the new film, maybe this next detail will – it’s reportedly going to be a musical.

People well and truly lost it on Twitter, with one user writing: “Congratulations Gaga!!! So proud of you we will be supporting FOREVER.”

While another added: “I’m in shock I can’t believe it’s real.”

We can't wait to see Gaga back on our screens.

A third, who we can only assume is shouting, said: “GAGA YOU BROKE THE INTERNET AGAIN YASSS WE LOVE TO SEE IT”

While another said that surely Gaga had to be helping out with the soundtrack: “After her work on Top Gun: Maverick, I wouldn’t be shocked if Lady Gaga assists with the score.”

And it seems that she already is because the teaser features the song ‘Cheek to Cheek,’ which Gaga recorded with Tony Bennett as part of their musical collaboration. The song was originally sung by Fred Astaire.

There’s a lot to be excited about

The first trailer for the much-anticipated comedy-horror Beau Is Afraid starring Joaquin Phoenix just dropped and it looks like there’s a lot to be excited about.

The surrealist flick is the latest project by Ari Aster, the director famous for his impeccable horrors Hereditary and Midsommar.

Beau Is Afraid is set to drop in cinemas on 21 April this year, and judging from the trailer, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.

Often people complain of trailers that give away too much of the plot, but this one somehow leaves you knowing less by the end of it.

Honestly, what the hell is the plot of this film?

Well, luckily we have the synopsis, elucidates things. Kind of.

It reads: “A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”

The new movie has a star-studded cast with Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid

People are raving about Demi Moore’s new movie despite labeling it as ‘grotesque’.

Grosteque isn’t typically a word you’d find in a good movie review, but it seems to be a common theme with those who have already seen the new film, which hits cinemas today (September 20).

Not only does Hollywood veteran Moore star, but so does Dennis Quaid and Maid actress Margaret Qualley.

But what is the film, I hear you ask? That would be The Substance.

Moore stars as a ‘fading celebrity decides to use a black-market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself’.

The Substance is French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s second film, with her previous directorial debut being 2017’s Revenge.

The film falls into several different genres: comedy, horror and drama.

While the movie has only just come out today, people are already flocking to social media to share their reviews.

One person said: “The Substance is *the* hardcore film of 2024. A furious dose of body horror that slowly eats away at duplicitous beauty standards until blood flows, guts spill, and only disfigured body parts remain.

“Utterly grotesque existentialism driven by a definitive Demi Moore performance.”

Another wrote: “THE SUBSTANCE is a B-movie mixed with The Fly and painted with Barbie’s candy coat. Don’t take it too seriously and let it rip your brain out. Career sh*t from Demi Moore. Gonzo third act that declares exactly what it is. Had a ball, wanted to gag.”

Meanwhile another went as far as hailing Fargeat as a ‘genius’, writing: “Coralie Fargeat is a wild genius with this demented body horror twisting beauty standard narrative.

“Demi Moore is perfectly commanding while Margaret Qualley is a destructive counterpart. Gross, hysterical, in your face & one of the year’s best theater experiences.”

A different film fan described The Substance as ‘stunningly grotesque exploration of aging and self-hatred with a breathtaking final act’.

Echoing people’s positive reviews, at the time of writing the movie has an 87 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.

A notable theme of The Substance is Hollywood’s beauty standards of women in particular.

Speaking on this, director Fargeat told BBC News: “It’s about what women look like, and how everything that is projected on them, from a young age, shapes their state of mind.”

She continued to reflect: “From the self-hatred and feeling that they’re never good enough, beautiful enough, thin enough, young enough.

“At each age, there is something that can make you feel like you’re not right.”
