Camila Cabello had a playful response to whether she thinks any songs have been written about her.“I have been lucky to contribute in many ways to the great music of the 21st century,” Cabello, 27, said during her guest appearance on Alex Cooper’s Unwell Tour, per fan footage. “Sometimes I have written them. Sometimes they have been written about me. So, you’re welcome, motherf—-s.”Unable to load the playlist, please click to retry.Cabello’s remark comes amid speculation that several tracks from Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet album are about their alleged love triangle with Shawn Mendes. In Carpenter’s track “Coincidence,” the Disney channel alum sings about a guy who got back together with an ex shortly after their split.“The second I put my head on your chest / She knew, she’s got a real sixth sense,” Carpenter sings on the first verse. “Now her name comes up once, then it comes up twice / And without her even bein’ here, she’s back in your life / Now she’s in the same damn city on the same damn night.”Carpenter’s “Taste” also directs the lyrics to an ex’s new girlfriend. “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you,” she sings. “If you want forever, I bet you do / Just know you’ll taste me too.”
Carpenter added fuel to the fire after she dropped a video for “Taste,” which starred brunette Jenna Ortega. Cabello has been brunette during most of her career, including while dating Mendes.
“Pulling up to my own funeral,” Mendes wrote via Instagram of his VMAs outfit before the show. (Mendes appeared to leave the awards show early after performing his tune “Nobody Knows,” which seems to hint at his romance with Cabello.)
“You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you…” Cabello sang, before omitting the next word: “taste.” Instead, she put a finger to her lips before moving on.
