Guy Ritchie’s next gangster series set to star Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan in follow up to The Gentleman

Guy Ritchie's next gangster series set to star Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan in follow up to The Gentleman

It would be one hell of a cast if it gets made

Guy Ritchie has a new gangster series in the pipeline, and if he gets everyone he wants for it, then there’s going to be a star-studded cast.

When he makes a TV show it seems to be a spin-off of something he’s already made a film about.

Back in 2000 he produced the series Lock, Stock… based off his 1998 movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, while this year he made Netflix series The Gentlemen based on his 2019 movie of the same name.

Ritchie is currently working on Young Sherlock for Prime Video, you’ll remember he directed Sherlock Holmes (2009) and the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011).

Now, according to Deadline he’s got another TV series in the works. This time for Paramount+ and going back to his gangster genre roots.

They report that negotiations are in place for the likes of Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren to star in a Guy Ritchie series called The Associate.

In the series if Hardy was cast he’d supposedly have the role of a bloke called Harry, a fixer who sorts out people’s problems. Deadline claim they’re hearing that Brosnan and Mirren would be likely culprits for the big cheeses at the top of a crime family.

Hardy worked with Guy Ritchie before on the 2008 movie; RocknRolla, whereas Brosnan and Mirren haven’t worked for the director. They have however worked together previously.

Recently, they’ve been filming The Thursday Murder Club, and neither is any stranger to the sort of action and gangster fare that Guy Ritchie is famous for serving up to audiences.

In fact, they were in a classic gangster film together even if they didn’t get to share much of any screentime back in 1980 movie The Long Good Friday and Mirren has recently appeared in a handful of movies in the Fast & Furious franchise.

If all the pieces fall into place for The Associate then you can expect one hell of a cast. The project itself is still in the casting stage so it’ll be quite a while before you could expect to watch it.

Guy Ritchie has had a pretty busy year thus far, what with the release of The Gentlemen series and his World War Two movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The movie stars Henry Cavill as the leader of a group of Nazi hunters and is based on a true story which ended up providing some of the inspiration for none other than James Bond himself

How to watch forgotten recent spinoff of Guy Ritchie’s Snatch in the UK

While everyone’s buzzing for The Gentlemen, there’s another spin-off to watch

There’s a whole lot of hype around a particular spin-off series to a Guy Rithcie film, but many have forgotten a whole other recent one.

Only a couple of weeks ago, the trailer dropped for The Gentlemen spin-off Netflix series, with fans buzzing to see the follow up to the 2019 movie of the same name.

But fans of Ritchie’s work can already binge another series based on one of his films in the UK.

Snatch was released back in 2000 as the director’s second full-length film, starring the likes of Brad Pitt, Jason Statham and Stephen Graham.

The crime comedy followed two main plot lines, with one following the search for a stolen diamond, and the other focusing on a little-known boxing promoter that is under the control of a ruthless gangster.

And as some fans may remember, spin-off TV series Snatch premiered in 2017 with a second season in 2019.

Unlike The Gentlemen, it isn’t directly linked to the original film and is instead just based off of it.

Snatch has a lesser known spinoff series.

Columbia Pictures

The Snatch TV series features a young and talented cast including Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, Skins’ Luke Pasqualino, and Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor.

If you fancy having a binge of this forgotten series, you can buy episodes, or all of season one to watch on Amazon Prime. With the first season available to purchase, it’s priced at £2.49 per episode in HD or £9.99 for the whole season.

Or, if you have a BritBox subscription, you can watch both seasons of Snatch on there.

And if you have a VPN, you can watch the show on Crackle.

Maybe you’re a bit more old fashioned and just fancy watching it on a DVD and fair enough, it’s said to be a pretty good watch.

Rupert Grint AKA Ron Weasley stars in the Snatch TV series.

Crackle

Season two of Snatch has a 75 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes as viewers write: “Great chemistry between the cast, and the writing and plot has some great unexpected, often funny twists and turns. Good fun, which doesn’t take itself too seriously. Some great acting performances as the actors relax into their roles.”

Another put: “Snatch is so so iconic!! I love how everything is fast paced and strategic.”

Although others said it ‘seemed thrown together’.

Apparently ‘fun’ as far as a ‘fan-fiction’ goes, it may not live up to the levels displayed by what it’s based off but the series comes across as entertaining.

And who doesn’t want to see Ron Weasley getting put in sticky situations with some of London’s most violent criminals?

Tom Hardy film with scene branded ‘best in British film’ is streaming on Netflix

The 2015 film is often mentioned when people talk about the ‘best’ British cinema has to offer

A Tom Hardy movie that has a scene dubbed the ‘best in British film’ is streaming on Netflix – if you’re on the lookout for something to watch on New Year’s Day.

A thread on social media asked folks what the ‘best scene in a British film’ was and suggested that scene from Dead Man’s Shoes. You know the one. The one that everyone loves.

The one that shows Paddy Considine in the role of Richard having a goosebump-inducing confrontation with Sonny (Gary Stretch).

That scene has widely been praised as Considine’s best performance and is regularly bandied about when people talk about the best of British cinema.

However, Hardy’s appearance in biographical crime thriller Legend is also worth a mention.

The 2015 movie sees Hardy playing both Reggie and Ronnie Kray – the twin brothers at the forefront of London’s criminal underground in the 1960s.

To pull off playing the infamous twins, Hardy relied on CGI, earpieces, and some body doubles. Clever, eh?

Legend stars Tom Hardy as Ronnie and Reggie Kray.

Universal Pictures

Speaking about the complex job of playing two lead roles, Hardy said: “The two characters, they were pretty easy to slip between. The complicated part was to make an audience believe it wasn’t one performer doing both parts.”

As well as a double helping of Hardy, Legend, which follows the rise and fall of the notorious criminals, also has a pretty solid scene, which one X user reckons is the best in British film.

Responding to the thread mentioned above with a clip, they wrote: “This entire scene.”

In the scene in question, we see an explosive fight break out between sparring sides at a pub, which quickly descends into a grisly mess.

The Legend fight scene has been branded the ‘best’ of British cinema.

Universal Pictures

And it turns out plenty of people agree that it’s one of the best, with one person commenting: “The pub fight scene in Legend is one of my most favourite scenes in history.”

Another agreed: “The pub fight scene in Legend is one of the most iconic scenes ever and if you don’t agree you can suck my d**k.”

A third also said: “The pub fight scene in Legend is up there with my favourite movie scenes of all time.”

Someone else went even further saying it was the ‘best scene in any film ever’. Praise doesn’t come much higher than that really, does it?

And you’ll be pleased to know you can watch that scene – and the rest of the movie – right now as it’s streaming on Netflix.

Netflix viewers missed Brad Pitt traveller moment in The Gentlemen series

There’s a couple of Easter eggs in the new series

We’re only three months in to the year and yet we’ve already had all kinds of bangers to watch.

From Fool Me Once kicking things off to ‘terrifying’ true crime docs and from a new Adam Sandler film to the recent release of The Gentlemen, Netflix has been knocking them out.

A spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, the new series was released on 7 March and fans have been loving it.

Starring Theo James as the lead Eddie Horniman, it follows him getting a taster for the underground crime world when he’s forced to take over the secret family business.

The actor explained to LADbible that it’s a ‘completely different story’ to the popular film and while it’s ‘in the world’ it’s ‘more in a fun, bombastic Guy Ritchie way’.

And while it is a self-contained story without any of the original film’s characters, fans have noticed the odd reference to the wider world of TV and film that others might miss.

Included in that mix is a Brad Pitt reference.

During the fifth episode of the series, Eddie and Susie (played by Kaya Scodelario) try and negotiate with a group of travellers in a caravan.

Hang on...that looks familiar.

Netflix

The pair are hoping the bunch will help them ship some of the weed from their Halstead Estate.

And considering their deal, the travellers discuss it amongst themselves in whispers. Eagle-eyed film fans out there might notice this is a nod to one of Ritchie’s iconic films.

In 2000’s Snatch, Pitt’s character Mickey tried to haggle a deal with Turkish (Jason Statham) and Tommy (Stephen Graham) for a caravan in ‘periwinkle blue’.

Other little Easter eggs in the series see nods to Giancarlo Esposito’s role in Breaking Bad.

Pitt in Snatch.

Columbia Pictures

He plays Stanley Johnson in The Gentlemen, a businessman who sells meth – much like in the popular series.

All in all, fans have been loving this new Netflix drop and particularly are urging others to watch the penultimate scene in the pilot where Eddie’s older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) dances around in a chicken suit against his will.

Fans say it’s ‘so intense’ and you’ve really just got to watch it to truly get it as another said: “The Gentlemen chicken scene is so sad omfg.”

“The chicken scene in ‘The Gentlemen‘ Season 1, Episode 1 is one of the finest movie scenes l’ve ever seen in my life,” one wrote.

“So well-written and perfectly acted out. F**king hell!”

The Gentlemen is available to watch on Netflix.

Guy Ritchie’s new series is out on Netflix now

Guy Ritchie’s new The Gentleman series has finally arrived, following on from the 2019 movie of the same name.

While the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant having starred in the original film, the new Netflix series has a completely different plot, along with a new-look cast.

The story centres around the Duke of Halstead, Eddie Horniman (Theo James), the estranged son of an English aristocrat.

Eddie gets a taste for the underground crime world when he is forced to take over the secret family business.

“It’s a very different story, completely different story,” James told LADbible.

“You know, it’s about a soldier that comes back to his family seat and his father’s died.

“And he unwittingly inherits the entire state over his older brother.

“So it’s a different story. It’s in the world, but it’s more in a fun, bombastic Guy Ritchie way, there’s a bit of a deconstruction of British classism, the hyper wealthy, the fading power of the aristocracy.

“So in terms of that, no, it’s not it’s not the same in any way.”

Now, it seems viewers can’t get over the penultimate scene in the pilot, which sees Eddie’s older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) dance around in a chicken suit against his will.

Viewers can't get over the penultimate scene in the pilot.

Netflix

Freddy – a wealthy drug user – owed a family of Scouse drug dealers a lot of money, so much so he couldn’t afford to pay them back.

While Eddie gets together as much cash as possible, the two parties strike a unique deal to spare his life – which involves Freddy dancing around like a madman in a chicken suit.

It will make more sense when you actually watch it.

“In a way it really needs to be this fiercely degrading moment for my character, where he’s just stripped bare, and kind of torn apart,” Ings explains.

“And somebody just exposes him in front of his brother and shames him in this way.

“I credit Guy with kind of recognising that actually, the way it was written on the page was a fun scene, but it was kind of silly, but it needed to be grosser than that, in a way.”

Viewers have since been scarred by the scene, as one person tweeted: “The chicken scene in The Gentlemen is so intense for no reason.”

“The chicken scene in ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 1, Episode 1 is one of the finest movie scenes l’ve ever seen in my life,” wrote a third.

“So well-written and perfectly acted out. F**king hell!”

The Gentlemen also stars Ray Winstone, as drug kingpin Bobby Glass, who runs his industrial cannabis empire from prison.

Kaya Scodelario also stars as Susie Glass, Bobby’s fashionable and ruthless daughter, handling the drug operation while her dad is locked up.

Vinnie Jones plays as the estate’s groundskeeper Geoff Seacombe, while Giancarlo Esposito plays one of the richest men in the world, with a big secret.
