People urged to binge-watch 'one of the best comedies on TV' with second season dropping next week

The show might have totally flown under your radar

While we’ve all got our go-to streaming platform, there’s one with some pretty major shows that often seems to fly under the radar.

Sure, Netflix has got the Menendez Brothers, Disney+ has all the Marvel stuff, and Prime Video has Clarkson’s Farm, but you could be missing out on ‘one of the best comedies on TV’.

That’s because Apple TV is about to drop a second season of one of its popular series that people are urged to binge-watch beforehand.

With the 100 percent-rated Gary Oldman thriller having just had its finale, it’s time for the return of Shrinking.

The comedy drama landed on the platform last year and stars the likes of Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and Heidi Gardner.

Segel also helped create the show alongside Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence.

Shrinking follows the How I Met Your Mother star as a grieving therapist who decides to become way more involved in his clients’ lives, and goes pretty off the book by telling them exactly what he thinks.

And as viewers rave about it online, the series has an impressive 91 percent average on the Tomatometer, with a decent 87 percent from audiences on the Popcornmeter to match.

One user on X shared their excitement for the upcoming season as they urged: “#Shrinking is one of the best shows on TV now. Watch it if you haven’t already!”

Others said they’ve ‘been waiting’ for a second season as the praised the ‘amazing’ show.

Many reckon Apple TV is home to ‘the best TV shows’ as they point out Shrinking is joined by the likes of Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, Silo and Severance.

One also wrote: “Shrinking on Apple TV has taken the cake for my favourite show.”

While another admitted: “I almost gave up on it, thinking it was going to be too sad, but it’s hysterical. Season 2 is coming out this month.”

Others echoed: “Okay, hold me down and tie me up! There’s a new season of SHRINKING on Apple TV. If you haven’t seen S1, I do highly recommend it, especially if you are going through some s**t.”

Over on Reddit, another said: “I LOVED this show. So good. The cast is awesome. I didn’t realise how hilarious Harrison Ford is.”

Many described it as a ‘warm hug’ as it tackles ‘weird real-life situations while still being a fun show’.

As another fan added: “I still think this is the role Harrison Ford was born for, yeah that’s quite the claim but he made me Laugh out loud more than anything in the past 10 years.”

Shrinking is available to watch on Apple TV, with the second season premiering on 16 October.

Fans of Netflix’s One Day urged to watch near-perfect BBC show starring leading actress

One Day has gripped viewers since its release

It’s an emotional roller coaster of a TV show that has gripped critics and fans alike since it dropped on Netflix.

And fans can’t get enough, with some even re-watching it straight away due to how incredible they found it.

We’re talking about the fantastic mini-series One Day, which dropped on the streaming platform earlier this month.

The show stars Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall in the leading roles of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, with the pair producing standout performances that have been loved by critics and audiences alike.

Based on the 2009 best-selling David Nicholls novel of the same name, it follows the relationship of Em and Dex since their chance encounter at a graduation ball while finishing their studies at the University of Edinburgh.

The show starts in 1988, where the pair spend the night together after bumping in to each other at the party and hitting it off. After heading back to her place, they don’t have sex but instead, spend the night talking about life, and how different their lives might be once they both turn 40.

Their first meeting happened on 15 July, which is St Swithin’s Day, with each episode covering the same day one year on, seeing what the pair are up to since then.

There will be no spoilers from us, but an ongoing theme of ‘best friends but also clearly having something a bit more for each other’ continues throughout the whole show.

The ending is – let’s say – somewhat of a twist in a direction not many were expecting, with it leaving some rather distressed.

Critics have given the show a highly sought after 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences ranking it close behind at 85%.

Dustin Rowles, of Pajiba, writes: “It is hard to stress just how good both Woodall and Mod are here. Emma is instantly likeable even with her Angela Chase neuroses, while Woodall has the slightly more difficult task of playing an arrogant cad with whom we are still smitten.”

Beth Webb, of Empire Magazine, said: “One Day has found gold in its leading duo, whose chemistry feels timeless and totally captivating. An outstanding showcase of talent.”

Mod’s performance, alongside Woodall, has captured audiences with viewers fully invested in their story due to their authenticity in role.

And some are saying another show, this time on the BBC, is essential viewing if you need a quick fix when it comes to enjoying the talents of acting Mod in particular.

Back in 2022, the London actress starred in the Beeb mini-series This Is Going to Hurt.

It’s a medical comedy-drama created by former doctor Adam Kay and based on his memoir of the same name.

The seven-episode show looks in to lives of a group of junior doctors working on an obstetrics and gynaecology ward in an NHS hospital, exploring their professional and personal lives and the emotional damage that can be caused working in a stressful work environment.

It boasts a 95% rating with critics, with audiences putting it at 92%. Hot stuff in need.

Mod stars as Shruti Acharya alongside Ben Whishaw as Adam Kay, with both of them landing awards for their work on the show.

Mod went on to win best supporting female actor at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards (RTS Awards).

“Reinvigorating the medical drama is a tall order, but Kay’s flair for gallows humour, which comes through in his memoir, and the stellar performances from Whishaw and Mod especially, make it work,” said Linda Holmes, of NPR, at the time.

Naturally fans are saying you should give it a watch if you enjoyed Mod in One Day.

Over on X, one posted: “if you liked Ambika Mod in One Day, check out her incredible (and devastating) performance in This is Going to Hurt.”

Another wrote: “Ambika Mod actually such a star, after watching One Day and This Is Going to Hurt i need to see her face literally everywhere she’s so brilliant and charming and natural.”

A third said: “Everyone who liked One Day should watch This Is Going to Hurt for more pain.”

True Detective fans urged to watch seriously dark BBC ‘masterpiece’ with impressive Rotten Tomatoes rating

Some fans reckon you could ditch True Detective altogether

True Detective fans looking for their next crime fix have been urged to check out a ‘masterpiece’ from the BBC, with some viewers thinking it’s actually better than the fare True Detective serves up nowadays.

One viewer even called it ‘the only show that comes remotely close to scratching the eternal True Detective S1 itch’, and that really is high praise.

This is Top of the Lake, which follows detective Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) as she attempts to solve the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl in New Zealand.

Released in 2013, the first series of Top of the Lake actually has a better Rotten Tomatoes score than any series of True Detective.

Even that mythical first season of the crime show only managed to win over 92 percent of the critics, while Top of the Lake‘s first season is sitting pretty at 95 percent.

"Knock-knock, it's the police."

BBC/Sundance

At this point the difference really is splitting hairs and they’re both excellent crime dramas, but it helps underline why so many True Detective fans reckon it’s worth checking out.

“Don’t watch Season 4 of True Detective when you can just watch Top of the Lake instead,” one even said, which seems pretty harsh on the rather well received fourth season.

Then again, this parallel is being made because lots of True Detective fans reckon season four ‘has Top of the Lake vibes’.

Some viewers have said the latest season has been a ‘pretty seismic shift in tone’ as True Detective was now ‘more about an ensemblized “town” instead of a subjective plunge into the point of views of the lead detectives’.

However, some viewers of both felt that Top of the Lake gave them something which True Detective didn’t, saying the latter show ‘actually gives a s**t about the victims, not just about being proven right’.

The drama follows the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl.

BBC/Sundance

If that sounds right up your alley then it’s worth circling back to Top of the Lake to scratch the itch left by True Detective.

Plus once you’ve ploughed through the first season there’s a follow up called Top of the Lake: China Girl starring Gwendoline Christie which follows the investigation of the death of a girl whose body was found on Bondi Beach, Australia.

Top of the Lake fan said the show was ‘two of the most staggering seasons of television ever created’, so now you’ve really got to watch it and see what that’s all about.

Co-produced by the BBC, Top of the Lake is available to stream in the UK for free on UKTV Play.

Viewers can’t stop watching ‘one of best series of all time’ that’s left people ‘genuinely creeped’ since watching

Eager fans are waiting to binge the latest season of the show

We’ve all got our favourite shows, from dramas and thrillers to sitcoms and romances.

And, more than likely, we’ll all refer to one of them as the ‘best series of all time’. Because, let’s be honest, it’s totally subjective – just because you think Baby Reindeer is the best Netflix show ever probably doesn’t mean your Bridgerton-loving nan does too.

But regardless, one, perhaps lesser-known, TV series is being tipped as the ‘best of all time’ by plenty of fans on our Netflix Bangers group.

Although, it’s not actually available to watch on the streaming site, you’ll have to stream it on NOW TV.

Leaving people ‘genuinely creeped’ after watching it, the show is from the executive producers of Lost so you can count on it being a good binge.

Originally premiering back in 2022 and with a third season set to land this year, FROM is a science-fiction horror series created by John Griffin.

And it’s no surprised it’s had viewers so unnerved as it’s set in a ‘nightmarish town’ in Middle America that ‘traps those who enter’.

Imprisoned there, the unwilling residents try to stay alive while desperately seeking a way out.

Oh, and they must also survive the ‘terrifying nocturnal creatures’ in the forest that surrounds them as well as all the ‘secrets hidden in the town’.

From stars the likes of Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Elizabeth Saunders, Ricky He and Shaun Majumder.

And it’s widely praised by viewers, with an impressing 94 percent score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and an 85 percent average audience score.

Fans on our Facebook group are urging others to watch the series, saying it’s ‘totally worth it’.

“I have been waiting for season three to be annoyed by the CLIFF HANGERS and weekly episodes. This series is a BINGE series… it will drive you nuts if you have to wait a week between episodes,” one wrote.

Another said: “It’s probably one of the rare new horrors that has genuinely creeped me out.”

Others put: “One of the best of all time I wish I could watch it for the first time again.”

Although, one did say: “It’s one of my favourites. But I’ll be honest, you’ll either love it, or hate it.”

You can stream seasons one and two of From on NOW, with the third season set to premiere this year.

Viewers in shock after being flashed by Phillip Schofield in finale of TV return

Probably not what they were expecting from the finale of his TV return

Fans are shocked after Phillip Schofield stripped down nude to skinny dip in the final episode of his TV return.

The three-part series, titled Cast Away, ended this evening as the former This Morning presenter returned to British tele after a year and a half away.

Schofield left morning TV after a scandal involving an extra-marital affair with a young coworker at This Morning.

The coworker was 20 at the time of the affair, though he was 15 when they first met, and 19 when Schofield got him work experience at ITV.

In the final episode, Schofield randomly strips down, before running nude into the ocean.

Whilst the scene makes some sense (who wouldn’t do the same left on an island on their own), the sudden appearance of Schofield’s a**e was a shock for viewers.

One fan tweeted: “Why’s phillip schofield just ran across my tv naked may i ask?”

Another said: “NO WAY have I just seen Phillip Schofield naked running into the sea”.

A third, who perhaps was humble bragging just a tad, tweeted: “Why am I seeing Phillip Schofield’s bare arse on my 60 inch tv”.

A fourth asked a vital question: “Did we really have to see Philip Schofield’s naked bottom?”

The final episode sees the end of what many would consider a less than successful return to TV for the ‘disgraced’ presenter.

The first episode received only 1.4 million viewers on Monday night, which would be considered an average show under Schofield’s reign at This Morning, not a massive shock return in a prime time slot.

In the episode, Schofield also opened up about his brother Timothy’s conviction for 11 separate sexual offences involving a child.

Schofield claimed that he was ‘fired for someone else’s crimes’.

ITV have yet to comment on the Schofield series, but in response to an earlier story, they pointed to a statement made by ITV in which said he was stepping down from This Morning but remaining a part of the ITV family.

He resigned from ITV as a whole via a statement to The Mail, which confirmed he had lied to the studio, his lawyer, and to his family about the affair.

He said in the episode he refused to ‘name and refused to acknowledge’ his brother, before saying: “I was always open and honest with everyone at work about what was happening with my brother. I was fired for the bad publicity, for someone else’s crime.”

In a statement to the Daily Mail at the time of his leaving This Morning he said: “I am making this statement via the Daily Mail, to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.

“I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife…

“I am resigning from ITV with immediate effect, expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

“I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.”
