The Potterheads are fighting

But despite this elite level of knowledge, there’s still room for confusion as it turns out they might not know the Wizarding World films as well as they thought.

That’s because Harry Potter viewers have been left divided over what Dudley says in an iconic scene after seeing the Netflix subtitles.

During Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, there’s a scene when the boy wizard is living in his little cupboard under the stairs when Dudley comes thundering down, excited for his birthday.

And the little sh*t decides to give a few extra stomps to wake Harry up as he shouts: “Wake up, Potter!”

Except not according to the subtitles, in which he actually says ‘wake up, cousin’, pouring sawdust onto Harry’s head – yeah, an absolute little sh*t of a character.

One person posted the finding to TikTok, asking what people thought the real line was.

Other social media users and Potter fans have been left just as bamboozled, flooding to the post in confusion.

One fan simply refused to believe the subtitle is correct: “It’s Potter. Ain’t no way Dudley called him cousin… cousin would imply Dudley claims him as family not as his live-in whipping boy.”

Is it cousin or Potter? (Warner Bros.)

Others readily agreed, refusing to bow down to the tyranny of the subtitles when their ears knew the truth.

“I hear Potter. I don’t know why in the subtitle said cousin,” one said, as another said: “I always thought it was Potter too.”

The original poster replying: “Right? Maybe whoever did the captions misheard?”

Some users disagreed and said they could clearly hear ‘cousin’ opposed to ‘Potter’.

“It was always cousin,” one said, while another pointed out: “It says cousin.”

The heated debate continued on other social media sites too, with one Harry Potter fan taking to Reddit in their pained confusion.

They called out to fellow Redditors: “Does anyone actually know what he says? It seems like a stupid question but it’s quite hard to distinguish between ‘Potter’ and ‘cousin’ when they’re muffled by a staircase and it’s getting frustrating.”

“It’s cousin. If you particularly listen for the consonant in the second syllable, it’s clearly a ‘z’ sound like cousin and not a ‘t’ sound like Potter,” one user argued.

Harry Potter fans are just realising what Aunt Petunia is doing in kitchen scene

The Easter Egg in the Harry Potter film gives a whole new meaning

In fact, there are probably so many things in the franchise that you’ve missed which could add depth or a hidden meaning to scenes.

However, there was one scene in particular that fans are only just realising about which gives a good nod to the books.

It’s right in the beginning of the first ever film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which first released all the way back in 2001 (sorry to make you feel old…).

The first movie is an absolute classic, and is something many of us have seen countless times but probably haven’t really taken in the full spec of what’s going on.

As you’ll already know, Aunt Petunia is a nasty old witch (well, muggle and a b**ch) and she is just awful to poor Harry in most scenes.

In this particular scene, she is seen in the background in the kitchen when Harry gets his first letter from Hogwarts.

You wouldn’t be daft to think that she was just a background character that that point, as many people probably thought the same.

But over on Reddit, fans are pointing out just what she is actually doing with the pot.

Sharing the details with other Potterheads, one wrote: “In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone, Aunt Petunia is visible in the background of this scene dyeing Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry’s uniform.

“This is only ever mentioned in the book.”

While Mr Dursley skims through his post, and Harry admires the Hogwarts envelope with his name on it, Aunt Petunia can be seen in the background mixing a pile of clothes around in a big pot.

In the original book, the Dursleys had originally planned on sending Harry to Stonewall High, rather than Dudley’s prestigious Smeltings Academy.

For his school uniform, Aunt Petunia had dyed some of Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry to wear.

And luckily for him, the boy wizard’s letter from Hogwarts came just in time, saving him from having to wear the rank uniform looking like ‘elephant skin’.

Harry Potter fans were shocked when the easter egg was pointed out to them, baffled they hadn’t spotted it themselves.

One commented: “The amount of times I have seen this movie is crazy, and I’ve read the book once, absolutely loved it, and yet I didn’t even notice this.

“That’s actually really cool!! Just wish they kept Peeves in the film!”

Another put: “Remember when the movies were this true to the books? Good times.”

And one wrote: “I always wondered what she was doing, I’d clearly forgotten that detail between reason the book and watching the film.”

Other Harry Potter fans have been left in stitches as Americans discuss the things they thought were magic – but they’re actually just British.

They’re actually hilarious too. I’m talking treacle tart, Christmas crackers and train snack trolleys. Oh, so magical.

Harry Potter fans think 'brain is glitching' after discovering massive Hollywood star's cameo in The Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter fans think ‘brain is glitching’ after discovering massive Hollywood star’s cameo in The Deathly Hallows

Fans spotted the cameo and now can’t believe it

The film series obviously catapulted the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into fame forever, while also solidifying the legacy of actors such as Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, and Michael Gambon.

Add to that actors in supporting roles such as Matthew Lewis, who played Neville, and Harry Melling, who played Dudley, and you have a litany of names whose careers were set off in part by Harry Potter.

This, however, is one name spotted by fans from well before he was a name, and in a tiny cameo role.

The cameo was spotted on TikTok, and is taken from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

At the wedding of William Weasley and Fleur Delacour, fans spotted a young Regé-Jean Page.

He plays a concerned wedding attendee, stood next to Hermione and Ginny when they receive word an attack is on the way.

The actor, who went on to star in BridgertonDungeons and Dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves, and The Gray Man, is even a frontrunner to be playing the next James Bond, if rumours are to be believed.

The post was posted with the accompanying caption: “Pls tell me my brain isn’t glitching and you do see that too.”

One comment on the post read: “For anyone still wondering: yes, it is Regé-Jean Page (Hasting’s actor in Bridgerton).”

Another read: “THE DUKE OF HASTINGS—”, whilst another tagged their friend saying: “omg it is actually him!”

Page has spoken out about the role since, telling The Tonight show that he enjoyed it ‘hugely’.

He said: “I mean, the best thing about background acting, particularly on big movies like that, and I recommend it to every actor out there – is essentially, no one pays attention to you in the background, so you get to be the best actor spy.”

He stated that one particular thing he learnt from watching Emma Watson? Where she hid her phone.

He said: “I was like watching how these directors work with these actors, where Emma Watson hides her phones between takes… and this is the valuable stuff.

“It was under the tablecloths at the wedding, by the way. Sorry, Emma.”

The actor is one of many to have gone on, and not the only cameo – with Charlotte Ritchie of Ghosts, Taskmaster, and Feel Good fame having previously been spotted for her cameo in the Harry Potter franchise.

Harry Potter fans have spotted an unforgivable mistake in iconic Chamber of Secrets scene

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has a huge mistake when you look very carefully.

The mistake we’re talking about here occurred pretty early on in the series, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

As Potterheads will know, the film saw Harry pitted against – among other things – his mortal enemy Draco Malfoy, all while the ‘Heir of Slytherin’ runs amok around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In one particular scene, the pair attend a duelling club with a number of their fellow students, and are told to fight one another with their wands across a raised platform.

Whilst they are only supposed to be attempting to disarm one another, the encounter quickly descends into chaos, with the pair slinging violent spells across the hall at one another.

It’s at this point that the crucial mistake occurs.

Draco landed the first blow, sending Harry crashing to the floor. However, The Boy Who Lived then rose quickly to his feet and returned fire with a spell of his own.

That clearly caught Draco off guard, sending him flying to the deck, too.

That being said, Malfoy wasn’t the only one who was caught off guard.

If you look closely you’ll see that if you pause the film at the right time, there’s a cameraman sitting in the back of the shot.

Yes, one of the crew managed to sneak into the shot, just there in the bottom left standing behind a camera.

Of course, these things happen all the time – seriously, just watch Braveheart – but when they’re pointed out to you, it can really shatter your disbelief and stop you engaging properly with the film.

Alternatively, you might just find it really funny and have it add another dimension to a film that you love.

After all, we all love the flawed characters in life, don’t we?

When the film you love has a few rough edges, does it really make it worse?

People on Reddit loved seeing the mistake pointed out, with one writing: “That’s one of Rita Skeeter’s assistants.”

Another joked: “I wonder if he knows he’s in the movie lol.”

The Harry Potter franchise certainly didn’t seem to suffer as a result of the blunder, running for a further six films and making billions at the box office.

Emma Watson admitted she had a ‘terrible crush’ on Harry Potter co-star during filming

Emma Watson had a crush on her Harry Potter co-star when she was younger

The Hermione actor, 34, took to The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012 to confess her two-year-long crush on her co-star.

During the interview, Watson said that she initially found it really difficult to play someone other than Hermione after the film franchise ended.

It’s hard to believe that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 came out so long ago in 2011 and it would be the last time she would play the Hogwarts student.

“I didn’t know if I believed in myself yet as an actress, outside the role of Hermione, which I knew I could do, and I did for a long time,” she said.

“I didn’t know if I had other people in me or not.

“I did doubt myself a little bit.

“I think I’d just played one person, who in many ways was similar to my own personality, and I played her for ten years and I got so comfortable doing that, that the idea of coming out and playing somebody else was terrifying.”

While sat on the couch, the actor recalled the first time she stepped onto a Harry Potter set.

Watson admitted that she proper fancied Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton.

“Between the ages of ten and twelve I had a really terrible crush on Tom Felton,” Watson said.

“To the extent that I would go into work in the morning and look down the numbers on the call sheet to see if he was going to be in.

“We love a bad guy, he was a few years older and he had a skateboard – and that just did it really.

“He totally knew [she had a crush on him] and the thing is that he’d tell everyone, ‘I see her in a younger, sisterly way,’ and it just broke my heart. It still does.”

Well, after the release of his memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard in 2022, Felton said he still had a great relationship with Watson.

“I was encouraged by a few people, Emma Watson specifically, to tell the whole story and not just sort of cherry-pick the fluffy bits,” he admitted.

“Not just because it was cathartic for me.

“But also in the hope that sharing those parts of my story will help others that are maybe not going through the best time.”

All’s well that ends well.
